Road to Valemount

We started our camping trip with a 3 night stay at Summit Lake which is between New Denver and Nakusp. It was on the Monday of the long weekend and lots of campers were heading home. I started counting….from Slocan to Summit Lake we passed 39 campers going home! Lucky for us! What was unlucky was the weather was cold and wet. I huddled under a flannel quilt and heating pad to warm up and managed to read a whole book so not all was lost.

I spent a morning with my good friend that has a quilt shop in New Denver while Brent drove home to look for his key fob that he had left in his other pants pocket. Luckily he found it.

There is snow on the top of the mountains!

We did see 2 grizzlies on our way to summit lake

Next stop Little Fort…it was so disappointing that I won’t say anything more….we got up early next morning and headed to Valemount. Great campsite there. Yellowhead Campground…came highly recommended. Still cold but not as much rain.

Reason for coming here was to vendor at the BC Backcountry Rendevous. I saw some beautiful horses and dogs. My jaw kept hitting the ground. I definitely was naive with breeds…I only have seen pictures…Arabians, Percherons…just to name a couple! No idea what the others were lol..

Spent a couple of nights there hanging out with my bestie and headed home. Got as far as Salmon Arm and the weather was much nicer. We decided to spend a couple of nights here just to warm up.

Beach was awesome!

Went for a walk around the campground and stumbled upon these! There were lots more but these were the first ones we saw 🤩

So cool…apparently they were there for the week with lots more arriving so we had a blast sitting on the beach watching them fly around. I even got a bit of a sunburn. Never felt so nice.

So we headed out with the intention of spending one more night at Summit Lake but the rain was coming down so hard we just kept going. Overall it was a great trip despite rain and cold.
