Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and Buses)

We are slowly getting back in the groove again. This trip we are heading off on the Rocky Mountaineer traveling fro Banff to Vancouver

Day 1 - Automobile

Drove to Kelowna (with our usual stop at the Deadwood Junction. Spent the night at the Four Points Airport Inn. Quite nice and very comfortable. We could have parked long term at the hotel but we have chosen to park at the airport. The restaurant on site is quite good too.

Day 2 - Plane

Headed to the airport and cruised through security. Creating ones boarding pass online is very easy and helped alleviate stress. The only stress was…is this working? lol…

After a very quick 45 min flight to Calgary we made our way to our shuttle bus (Banff Airporter). We managed to get on an earlier shuttle which gave us a few minutes to grab lunch on the go.This leg of the trip was about 2 hrs and made a very quick stop in Canmore before arriving in Banff. Weather was perfect.

- Bus

…and the scenery spectacular

Reservation is made at the Ptarmigan and we were able to check in early. This gave us a chance to wander the streets of downtown Banff and check in with the Rocky Mountaineer. Very touristy here…and it’s off season!

Time for dinner…we stumble across a Korean restaurant. Had to wait until they opened at 4:30. We were not disappointed. The waitress was from Korea and we had a great conversation with her. Her English was superb. It was great practice for her.

Day 3 - Train

We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the train station where we boarded. We were so impressed. First class all around

Heated seats too!

Outdoor deck

Beverages and food were abundant!

Banff to Kamloops speed 30mph

Disembarked around 7:30ish in Kamloops and spent the night at the Coast Hotel. We were pretty tuckered.

Picked up at 7 and back on board ready for another day. Kamloops to Vancouver

Osprey nest aprox 100yrs old!

Black canyon

Look closely and you can see the front of our train crossing on the bridge

Look very very carefully and you can see a bald eagle perched on the cliff…lol…there were several sitings of eagles and ospreys closer up!

Fraser and Thompson Rivers merge
